The ex-Chelsea captain assisted Dean Smith guide Aston Villa back to the Premier League - defeating Lampard's Derby team 2-1 at Wembley on Monday.

But the Villa assistant supervisor wants to be person prior to taking a number one job - despite his integral role in the Villains' Championship play-off triumph.

While he values his close friendship with Lampard, 40, Terry desires to make his stripes prior to taking the step up like his buddy.

The 38-year-old claimed: "In the long run, that's obviously my ambition [management] however I'm not assuming that.

" I've claimed as a player I obtained to the heights I wished to obtain to and I securely believe I'm a YTS (Youth Training Scheme) again.

" I'm starting right from the very lower, I'm not terrified to state that.

" I'm not worried to do all the grunt work, choosing up the cones, the spheres, the bibs, that's part of my education.

" I've obtained a fantastic teacher in Dean so I'm really privileged to be able to rest there as well as discover.

" I've constantly desired to do it and also I assume you referred to as a player when time's up really.

" It's been something I've been preparing for a couple of years, and the experience as well as daily deal with the training field and what the manager permits me to do has actually been wonderful for me."

While delighted for his own passions to take a back seat for currently, Terry teemed with praise for the achievements at Pride Park of his pal and also previous West Ham, Chelsea and Man City man Lampard.
